Diabetic Shoes and Summer Fun

All people with Diabetes, any type, should take care when choosing shoes.  Many of us have seen shoes for Diabetics that are  horribly ugly, big and bulky types, but I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to have ugly shoes if you are a Diabetic!

As summer approaches, many of us will be shopping for new sandals, and we want something that will be cute, as well as protective of our feet. The purpose for Diabetics to take care of their feet is neuropathy.  Neuropathy is damage to the nerves that occurs from high blood glucose over time. A day of higher than normal blood sugar isn’t going to cause neuropathy, but too many days will. When the nerves get damaged, the concern is that we can injure our feet and not feel it. If this happens, the injury can become infected, and then amputation of the foot may be necessary. It is much better to take care of your feet than to not have them! Be sure to carefully examine your feet every day for sores or injuries, and consult your doctor about any you find. Be kind to your feet, and they will be kind to you!

Summer sandals for those with Diabetes can be cute AND help protect your feet. Look around and find the style that suites you best. Click on the shoe to go see them at Amazon.com I’m hoping to get a new pair too!
