Roasted Turkey
When we can find a good deal on a whole turkey or ham, we like to buy a couple and freeze for future use. Today I am roasting a turkey, a whole 13 pound turkey that we paid just over $7 for. It was after the holidays, so it was a good deal!
We will get several good carbohydrate free meals and snacks out of this meat, and the bones will be put back into the freezer to eventually use for making soup broth. Turkey broth is more “gamey” tasting than chicken, so I like to mix some chicken broth with the turkey broth to help mellow the flavor a bit when making the soup.
We will use this meat for hot dinners, sliced for sandwiches, diced for salads and just cold on a plate with some pickles and cheese for snacking. It is much better for us than deli turkey, and a whole lot cheaper. Turkeys are very easy to roast in the oven, basically just rinse it off, take out the bag of icky inside stuff and the neck and then put it in a roasting pan and bake it according to the directions on the package. My 13 pound turkey will take 3 and a half to 4 hours at 325 F heat. It needs to heat to 170 degrees deep inside the thickest part of the turkey. I don’t like the stuff that comes inside the turkey, so I usually just toss it out. You may wish to cook and eat it though.
It’s starting to smell good in here! Can’t wait to have a taste!

Me and my brother in law were talking about cooking the other day. He is quite the good cook better then his wife my sister. She is great at baking cakes. Food and cooking is beautiful. The whole process, the pre main meal food, the main meal, and the dessert.
